NuvaRing

First approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in October 2001, NuvaRing is a vaginal contraceptive ring that is up to 99 percent effective at preventing pregnancy when used as directed. NuvaRing is made by Organon and should be worn for three continuous weeks, after which it is removed and discarded to allow for normal menstruation.

NuvaRing Side Effects

Like other hormone-based birth control medications, such as YAZ, NuvaRing can commonly cause some minor, highly treatable and passing side effects that may include yeast infections, nausea, and weight gain.

In rare cases, however, research has shown that NuvaRing can increase a woman’s risk of developing some serious, potentially fatal conditions, including blood clots, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), heart attack, and stroke.

Women considering starting a course of NuvaRing are encouraged to discuss their complete medical history with their doctor in order to minimize their risk of developing severe NuvaRing side effects. Women who experience difficulty breathing, chest pains, paralysis on one side of their body, or feelings of faintness, should seek emergency medical attention.

NuvaRing Warnings

In 2005, the FDA issued a national NuvaRing warning, stating that it was requiring Organon to include boxed warnings on all NuvaRing packaging and advertising materials to advise those with a history of blood clots or bleeding disorders not to use this contraceptive device. Additionally, the NuvaRing boxed warning was to alert the public to the risk of developing bleeding abnormalities when using this device.

NuvaRing Lawyer, Lawsuits, and Settlements

Despite such warnings, many women have been injured by NuvaRing, and they have a compelling defective device lawsuit against Organon. Injured NuvaRing patients are invited, once their health is no longer in grave danger, to receive a professional, thorough evaluation of their case, along with expert advice on how to proceed with their claim, by attending a free initial consult with a NuvaRing attorney.

NuvaRing lawyers are committed to aggressively defending the rights of those injured as a result of using NuvaRing, and they are passionate about helping victims present the strongest possible case so they can secure a NuvaRing settlement that compensates them for their injuries and losses.
