American Medical Systems Vaginal Mesh

American Medical Systems (AMS) mesh is used to help repair pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence in women. The mesh offers support and stability to pelvic organs like the bladder, urethra, and bowel that may have “dropped” or “fallen” into the vaginal wall due to a weakening of the surrounding muscles and tissues. Unfortunately, a recent AMS mesh FDA warning advised physicians that complications with mesh surgeries are not rare.

AMS Mesh FDA Warning

On July 13, 2011, an AMS mesh FDA warning alerted physicians to the fact that serious complications with vaginal mesh surgery are not rare, and that surgery with AMS mesh may be no better than traditional surgery without it.

Complications possible with AMS mesh include bleeding, infections, urinary problems, pelvic pain, erosion, extrusion of the mesh into the body, perforation of pelvic organs, and recurrence of pelvic organ prolapse.

In addition, the AMS mesh FDA warning stated that patients may require additional surgery to correct problems with vaginal mesh, and that sometimes these surgeries may not repair the problem.

AMS Mesh Lawsuit

Many women have come forward to file an AMS mesh lawsuit in recent months, including some in Alabama and California. Typically these women claim that AMS mesh caused complications like erosion, repeated infections, and adverse reactions, with some women experiencing lasting damage. An AMS mesh lawsuit is likely to assert that AMS created a defective product, and failed to adequately warn physicians and the public about the serious risks of complications.

AMS Mesh Lawyer

AMS products like Apogee, Perigree, Elevate, and the SPARC Sling were implanted into thousands of women in 2010. Some of those women have since sought the advice of an AMS mesh lawyer because of the complications they experienced.

How do you know if you may be eligible for an AMS lawsuit? Talk to your AMS mesh lawyer. He or she will be able to help you gather and organize any evidence you may need, including medical records, surgeon’s comments, and medical expenses, including those for prescriptions. An AMS mesh lawyer will need to prove in court that your vaginal mesh implant caused your health difficulties, and the more evidence you can come up with the better your chances at winning compensation.
