Crestor Lawsuits

Crestor lawsuits are defective drug cases in which those who have sustained serious injuries due to use of the popular cholesterol medication known as Crestor, generically rosuvastatin, seek compensation for their medical bills, permanent disabilities, injuries, and losses from AstraZeneca, the distributor of Crestor in the U.S.

Approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2003, Crestor is an oral medication that can reduce the levels of total and LDL cholesterol, treat tryglcerides (levels of fat in the blood), and simultaneously increase levels of œgood (HDL) cholesterol. Crestor is also, as of February 2010, FDA approved for the prevention of heart attack and other heart problems in diabetics, those with coronary heart failure, and other high-risk patients.

Interesting one month after the extension of the FDA approval for the uses of Crestor, the FDA also alerted the public that:

  • Crestor carried the same risk of causing serious Crestor side effects as other medications classified as “statins.”
  • Patients of Asian ethnicity had an increased risk of developing serious Crestor side effects and, as such, should only be prescribed the lowest possible dose (5 milligrams)

Severe Crestor Side Effects

Although most Crestor patients will experience treatable and mild, if any, side effects (such as constipation, mild nausea, and headache), in some cases, patients can develop serious Crestor side effects, including:

  • rhambdomyolysis, progressive muscle deterioration that causes damaging proteins to be released in the blood, causing kidney damage and in the worst cases, kidney dysfunction
  • type-2 diabetes (An Elsevier study published in February 2010 reported that Crestor patients had an increased risk ” of about 9 percent ” of developing type-2 diabetes)
