Propecia Quick Facts Propecia Reference Guide
Propecia
Approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) nearly 20 years ago, Propecia – also sold under the brand name Prescor and generically known as finasteride – is an oral medication prescribed for the treatment of benign (noncancerous) enlarged prostate (clinically known as benign prostate hyperplasia) and male pattern baldness. Propecia cannot regrow hair that is already lost, cannot prevent the hairline from receding, and should not be used by women. In fact, due to the synthetic progesterone (hormone) contained within Propecia, pregnant women should not handle broken or pulvarized pills, as the hormones can cause serious birth defects to the genitals of newborns.
Although it can take up to six months for the effects of Propecia to become noticeable, patients should not take this medication for longer than a year, as typically if they haven't experienced any improvement during that time, they never will.
Propecia Side Effects
In clinical studies, about 1.3 percent of men who took Propecia stopped taking it due to the development of serious side effects including:
- decreased libido
- depression
- ejaculation dysfunction
- erectile dysfunction
- male breast cancer
Currently, no method exists for pre-screening men to identify who has the greatest risk of developing serious side effects. Although the majority of those who develop severe Propecia side effects can overcome them when they stop taking the drug, some cases are irreversible – a fact that is lacking from Propecia warning labels.
Propecia Lawsuits
Those who are injured and experience a diminished quality of life due to Propecia will have a strong defective drug case against Merck. Filing a Propecia lawsuit may lead to compensation for medical bills, injuries, pain, and suffering.
Propecia Lawyers
Propecia attorneys welcome injured parties to receive expert advice regarding their case during a complimentary initial consultation. To empower victims to stand up for their legal rights and follow through with a lawsuit, Propecia lawyers work on contingency, motivating them to make every effort possible to secure victims the maximum settlement for their injuries and losses.
