ObTape Sling

Implanted in approximately 36,000 women from 2003 through 2006, the ObTape Transobturator Sling (also referred to as a vaginal sling) is a medical device used to treat pelvic organiz prolapse (POP), stress urinary incontinence, and other damage to the vaginal walls (such as that caused by child birth, surgery, or trauma). ObTape Sling Warnings

In 2006, the Mentor Corporation pulled the ObTape vaginal mesh sling from the market due to the fact that a number of patients had reported developing severe health complications as a result of defective slings. One study published in the Journal of Urology in 2006 reported that between 12 and 20 percent of ObTape patients will experience serious injuries, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has disclosed that it has received nearly 300 patient reports regarding defective ObTape slings. The FDA issued a nationwide ObTape sling warning on October 31, 2008.
