Hydroxycut
Produced by MuscleTech Research and Development, Inc., Hydroxycut is a weight loss supplement that has never been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). A report published in the World Journal of Gastroenterology in May 2009 revealed that Hydroxycut supplements are the most popular brand of diet supplements sold in the U.S.
Hydroxycut Liver Damage
In May 2009, the FDA announced that 14 Hydroxycut products were being voluntarily recalled by MuscleTech Research and Development, Inc. due to growing concerns that they were causing severe liver damage, including jaundice and wrongful death. Among the recalled Hydroxycut products are Hydroxycut Carb Control, Hydroxycut Natura, Hydroxycut Liquid Shots, and Hydroxycut Regular Rapid Release Capsules.
In addition to causing serious liver injuries, Hydroxycut has also been linked to other side effects, including: seizures, kidney (renal) failure, serious muscle damage, and cardiovascular-related problems.
Hydroxycut Litigation
An article published in the New York Times in 2003 revealed that the makers of Hydroxycut had intentionally covered up research that indicated evidence of the serious heart damage associated with use of Hydroxycut products. Additionally, the exposé highlighted the fact that MuscleTech Research and Development, Inc. was tampering with documents used in legal proceedings to hide the dangers and ineffectiveness of the recalled Hydroxycut.
Although the makers of Hydroxycut have since reformulated the supplements and reintroduced them to the U.S. market, for many, the damage has already been done. Injured parties will have a strong defective drug case and are invited to secure the settlement awards they deserve by initiating Hydroxycut litigation, in the form of individual or class action Hydroxycut lawsuits.
